Episode 16: Riech and Roll

As usual, we begin with the news: Atheists and “The War on Inagural Addresses,” Kent Hovind told to piss off by the court, what happened in the Year in ID? Not effing much. We also talk about how dangerous it is to take the bus in New York with a church lady, the romance between Italy and the Vatican is over, and we scoop “Heads V,” Fifth Annual Meeting of Heads of National Nontheist Organizations. Say that five times fast.

It’s a recent trend in Christian rhetoric to lump Adolph Hitler in with Mao, Stalin and Pol Pot when blaming godlessness for the immorality of these nationalistic monstrosities. We talk about Nazi Germany, Martin Luther, Hitlers personal beliefs and we weigh in on the idea that hitler was an atheist. Did Hitler really kill millions in the name of atheism? How is this even a question?

OK, so I believe that perhaps Hitler didn’t buy into the occult thing, but he did send a team out to find the Ark of the Covenant, right? Because if not, I’m just going to lose all the faith I have in Hollywood producers.
    :)

It seems to me that those who are lumping Hitler in to this “pool of godlessness” are either doing so to separate him from their church (Christians would never do something so cruel!) or are taking the imagery of evil that Hitler portrays and applying it to atheists so that people will consider the word “atheist” to be synonymous with the word “evil”.

And Eli – your recap of your New Years Eve reminded me of the party you had in high school… only we all missed the countdown because we were too involved with our game of Trivial Pursuit to pay attention to the clock.
