A disturbing trend. Anti establishment, anyone, anyone?

Disaster continues for this fine nation I live in and the forces of the “christian right” (as opposed to the respectable right, the fiscal conservatives) are galvanizing and pushing their religious agenda harder than ever. Shortly after becoming absolutely incensed over Bill-O the clowns remarks concerning the Atheist sign in Washington state (which has now gone missing). We’ve got this revisionist historian airing his opinions in the Miami-Herald.

Here’s one quote that got my gander up:

DeMint said the center still misrepresents American history by downplaying the faith of the founding fathers and other prominent figures.

And DeMint’s reaction to another quote really made be blow a gasket:

DeMint, rated the most conservative senator by several think tanks and advocacy groups, also protested an engraved statement near the center’s entrance: “We have built no temple but the Capitol. We consult no common oracle but the Constitution.”

This latter statement, protested by DeMint, is exactly what makes America great, that when it comes to governance, “We have built no temple but the Capitol. We consult no common oracle but the Constitution.”

What a great sentiment, and in context states what is great about America. Individuals have built temples and individuals have their myriad oracles, but as a nation we have done neither. This is the exact vision of the founders of this nation. Apparently Senator DeMint needs a history lesson provided by someone other than his minister. this has been a common thread in recent decades, to replace our true founders with “good god-fearing men” of myth, say the lie for long enough and loud enough and some folks are bound to believe it.

I just have one question, are these politicians actively trying to bring atheists and those that support a strong separation of church and state together in opposition to them?
